Angular Trapping of Anisometric Nano-Objects in a Fluid

We demonstrate the ability to trap, levitate, and orient single anisometric nanoscale objects with high angular precision in a fluid. An electrostatic fluidic trap confines a spherical object at a spatial location defined by the minimum of the electrostatic system free energy. For an anisometric object and a potential well lacking angular symmetry, the system free energy can further strongly depend on the object's orientation in the trap. Engineering the morphology of the trap thus enables precise spatial and angular confinement of a single levitating nano-object, and the process can be massively parallelized. Restoring of A balance by electric pulses

Restoring of the balance beam to its initial situation after a change of load can be effected by combination of forces of different kind. In former papers we discussed the possibility using the equation of motion of the balance to determine the mass to be measured. After the measurement the balance was restored by means of current pulses into the electromagnetic measuring system. In the present paper we discuss the application of electric pulses into an additional electrostatic system.
Second-harmonic generation in Langmuir–Blodgett monolayers of stilbazium salt and phenylhydrazone dyes

The second-order nonlinear optical susceptibilities χ(2) of several phenylhydrazone and stilbazium salt dyes in Langmuir–Blodgett monolayers have been determined from second-harmonic-generation measurements. Three of the substances demonstrated χ(2) values greater than 10−6 electrostatic units, although two of the three did not absorb light significantly at the second-harmonic wavelength.
